What makes this trip unique?

  • Because we are staying at an eco-resort, and not at a dive resort or on a live aboard, we offer a balance of gorgeous diving with other invigorating activities such as hiking and kayaking.
  • The yoga on this trip is integrated with the activities and specifically tailored. While many resorts offer general yoga classes (which are great), on this trip you will learn applications of yoga to help you with your scuba diving.
  • Unlike many dive trips, where you travel with your local dive club, on this trip you will have the chance to meet divers from lots of other places.
  • This trip includes educational sessions on both land-based and marine ecology.

Is this a good trip for non-divers?

Yes! We have arranged great activities for non-divers including hikes or just relaxing at Jungle Bay. Non-divers will be able to participate in the morning yoga sessions and we will arrange to have both the divers and non-divers together for several activities such as a snorkel at Champagne Beach, the hike to Boiling Lake or ocean kayak trip, sight-seeing in the town of Roseau, and the whale watch trip. Non-divers can also join us on the dive trips, where they can snorkel or just float in the sun on the surface; because the water is so clear they'll be able to see many of the same things the divers do, just from further away. There is plenty to do on Dominica and at Jungle Bay for everyone.

Can I do more than the eight dives included with the trip?

Yes, you can arrange additional dives with Nature Island Dive for an additional cost. Please contact us for details.

Can I do my Open Water check-out dives on this trip?

Check-out dives would put an unnecessary constraint on the other divers on this trip. However, you can arrange to do check-out dives with Nature Island Dive beforehand. For example, you could do three check-out dives on Saturday, the final check-out dive early Sunday morning, and then join us for the rest of our scheduled dives. Please contact Nature Island Dive directly to arrange the pre-trip check-out dives.

What if I want to do an activity not included in the package?

You can arrange transportation to additional activities for an additional cost. Please contact us for details.

What if I want to extend my spa time beyond the included 30 minutes?

Jungle Bay will just bill you for the additional cost of extra spa time.

What type of meals are available?

Jungle Bay provides healthy Caribbean cooking. A variety of dishes including fish, chicken, beef and vegetarian options are available at each meal. You will also be able to take transportation into the towns for evening meals. Breakfast, lunch and your first night's dinner are included in the package. Also, we will arrange one group dinner in the town of Roseau, but you can take a taxi into Roseau for dinner on your own as well.

  • Trip date: March 7 - 14, 2009
  • Registration deadline: December 31, 2008
  • Early-bird rate deadline: August 31, 2008

How much does the package cost?

  • Regular rate: $1995
  • Early-bird (before August 31, 2008) discounted rate: $1795--Save $200 per person!

Rates are per-person double-occupancy. For a single-occupancy cottage add $700 to each rate. Rates for children are found in the registration form. A non-refundable 50% deposit must be received by August 31, 2008 to qualify for the early-bird rate. Full payment must be received by December 31, 2008.

Can I get my own cottage?

We have an option for a single-occupancy rate if you are traveling alone and don't wish to share a cottage with someone else.

Will I be assigned a roommate?

No, we will not assign you a roommate. However if you are traveling by yourself and wish to have a roommate, please contact Kimberlee at DoYoga@8thElementYoga.com and she will forward on your information to others who are interested in the trip who may be in need of a roommate themselves. ScubaBoard is also a good place to hunt for a roommate.

Are children allowed on this trip?

There can be 1 or 2 children from 2 to 11 sharing a room with 2 adults (children under the age of 2 are free of charge and children of 12 years and older are considered as adults). If there are two adults sharing a cottage, the discounted rate for children ages 2 to 11 is $350 per child. There is no discount for a child staying with one adult only.

Please be aware that while Jungle Bay certainly accepts children at the resort, the physical layout and design of Jungle Bay may not be the friendliest environment for children less than 12 years old. The cottages have high balconies, the pool has no lifeguard, and the layout of the resort involves a lot of walking. Neither we nor Jungle Bay offer childcare services. Noise levels should be kept to a minimum to respect the other guests' enjoyment of nature. That being said, we encourage well-traveled families with a sense of adventure to join us on this trip.

Children divers under the age of 15 must dive with their parent as a buddy. Children ages 10 - 11 may go no deeper than 40 feet; children ages 12 - 14 may go no deeper than 60 feet (70 feet if they have completed the Deep Adventure Dive).

Do I need a passport?

Yes, you will need a passport. Immigration officials require most visitors to Dominica to present a valid passport on arrival. All need to show a return ticket and some need to have a visa (list of countries that require a visa). Canadian citizens can show documents certifying proof of citizenship that also bears a photograph, and French nationals can stay for up to two weeks by presenting a valid identification card. Visitors coming from a specified list of countries, who intend to stay for 21 days or less, do not require a visa.

What do I need to bring?

We will mail you a checklist upon receiving your registration form and payment.

How do I get to Dominica?

Dominica has two airports: the Canefield Airport (short local flights only) and the Melville Hall Airport. Your best choice is to fly into Melville Hall (airport code DOM), which is one and a half hours from Jungle Bay. International flights from US and Europe are connected to the island through hubs in Antigua, Barbados, St. Maarten, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Leeward Island Air Transport (LIAT) usually completes the Dominican leg of these flights. LIAT and American Eagle also provide connecting flights to the island out of Puerto Rico.

If you live on the West Coast of the US or Canada, or live in Europe, we recommend leaving on Friday March 6. We recommend scheduling your flight so that you arrive at Dominica's airport by 5 pm on Saturday so that you can take advantage of your first night dinner, which is included with the package.

How do I get to the resort?

We will provide transportation from the airport to Jungle Bay. Please let us know your flight itinerary once you make reservations and transportation to and from the airport will be provided for you. We recommend that you arrive in Dominica between noon and 5 pm on Saturday, March 7. Check-in at Jungle Bay is after 2 pm, and the welcome dinner starts at 7 pm.

Should I rent a car?

Transportation to and from the airport, along with transportation to all organized group activities is included with the package. If you wish to go somewhere on your own, such as into town for dinner, Jungle Bay can arrange a taxi for you. Driving is on the left side of the road. However, because the roads of Dominica are steep and windy, and because you really will not need one, we recommend not renting a car.
